As for the lag, did you say that it lags on offline game play as well?
If not, I would think that the next question is what type of internet connection do you have? If you have dial up then theres your problem. If you have DSL or Cable then you should have a fairly quick connection unless you are wirelessly connected and you have a low bandwidth wireless card.
Give me this info on your setup based on your internect connection type and if you are connected wirelessly or ethernet cable.

things you can try 1. Turn off System Restore...right click My Computer..the Proeprties..the click on System restore and turn it off.. follow the prompts 2. disable all start up programs.. Start/ Run then type in msconfig then click on the StartUp tab then click on Disable all..aplly ..close Restart..when the system reboots click on the box at lower left of the dialog box that will show up..then click OK 3. Turn off all screen savers...Right click the desktop..then Propeties..then click on the Screen Savers tab and set it to none 4. Turn off all firewall..and automatic updates If you think you have a virus then there is a free online scaning service from Trendmicro housecall.trendmicro.comyou will have to download some plugins..then it will scan your system Common misconception is that the hard drive determines the spped of which a PC operates...this is wrong..a hard drive is a storage device and the only time that it determines speed is when it is being accessed. You also might want to double your RAM...256 is minimal for XP

I think it would be wise to install an antivirus if you dont have one, or dont have one thats up to date. If you have one that is expired then uninstall it and go to www.avast.com and download and install. I think i pasted the direct link in the free antivirus topic I posted on this board if you cant find it thru this link. all you have to do is register and they will send you a free keycode that is good for 1 year and you pay nothing. I have been using this program for 2 and a half years and I have never been infected yet. Download and install adaware SE if you dont have a spyware and adware program. I posted the link on this board too. It is also free. Download and install CCleaner and run the registry fix option. Save the backups so if you have a problem you can double click on the saved file and it will undo the fix. I have posted on this board all of these links and directions on how to use if you go up one level and read. These are all great programs that get regular free updates and cost you nothing. It cant hurt to try, it can only help. Try this and let me know if you still have problems. TMO

You can find all of the links you need in previous posts in this same board. Just download to a saved location on your computer that you can manually go back and find then you will want to double click on it and follow the instructions to install.

Hey spamreflex the first intructions you gaved me were those to stop the lag of my comp ?? Those instructions were aimed at freeing up resources on your system which is were lag comes from...lack of resources. If those instructions failed to resolve your problem then a closer look into your system is warrented. However 98% of the time after you follow those instructions there should be a noticable improvment in the performance of your system. Computers run from RAM..anytime you open a program.. it gets loaded into RAM and operates from there...the hard drive will be required at times of saving and dll calls but other than that RAM is running the show. Now you have to understand that your operating system (Windows Xp or whatever) is in RAM the whole time and XP takes up 128MB of RAM to run...which in your case only leaves 128MB for running everything else. Well if you open a program that requires more than the available RAM then the hard drive comes into play in the form of virtual memory..(we used to call it swap space..pageing file system etc..) and it is during this "swap" when your system tends to slow down a bit. Sufficeth to say that the more RAM you have available the less virtual memory you require. Now if you have other things running on your system then that leave less RAM for whatever else you want to run..understand that the CPU (Central Processing Unit) or brain is used in just about every function of your system although not for very long these days since DMA (Direct Memory Access) technology has entered the picture. So how can you tell what you have running in the background eating up your resources...look on the lower right hand side of your moniter...all those icons to the left of the clock are all running in the background. The standard Volume,Network icons do not interfere with resources to the extent that slow down your system. But anything else there are what is known as TSR (Terminal Stay Resident) program that are useing up resources. Which is why I gave the msconfig instructions...that was to stop those from running in the background. Another thing that can slow your system down in temporary internet files...you should be clearing them out at least once a week...more frequently if you surf the internet alot. Another thing that can slow your system down alot is a fragmented hard drive..what that means is that there are little bits and peices of one program spread out all over the hard drive..this usually is the case if you are installing and uninstalling alot of programs...running defrag will solve that problem..but I wouldnt run defrag frequently..puts alot of stress on your hard drive..I run defrag MAYBE once a year. Lastly..spyware can severly cause a slow down on your system..and if you have a broadband connection ( cable or DSl or T1 T3 etc) then everytime you turn on your system you are open to spyware...there is no program that can fully stop spyware from getting on your system but if you scan for it and remove it on a routine base than it should not be that much of a problem..most spyware is advertising trackers..for things like you would buy online or at a store.. however there is malicious spyware such as keyloggers which record your keystrokes from your keyboard and then send the file to the author..and that one really slows your system down. So I hope that this helps you out some. let us know how you fare out with this.

Well i think the reason my comp is so slow it's because i really unistalled and installed alot of games like command and conquer the first command & conquer generals wich its's separate generals on 1 cd and zero hour on 2nd cd now that game i installed it then unistalled it then i installed back because my brother found out about the thing playing on the internet (online) well its kinda har to say what happened because i cant install command and conquer generals nomore because the hard drive will not read the cd or somethings wrong with it but...i buyed command and conquer the first decade now on this one i had no problem installing it.Although i really unistalled and installed alot games I had counter strike installed but now i unistalled it and...i lost the 22nd cd of it but that was after i installed it back so you see i installed and unistalled alot games and blablablabla i even had problems with the computer and had to whipe out all the memory and start from nothing like when i first buyed this computer i had to whipe out all data because of a virus ....i did that twice i think...now then i also did defrag but that dosent do much help is there any other way? Thank alot for helping.
Alex.
