Ok guys. This is for Intel and AMD fans alike. Do you like the fact that AMD and Intel drive each other to be competetive in price and performance?
If so, you may me interested in this fact. AMD not so long ago purchased ATI (the video card company) to become the largest semiconductor company in the world. Their financial advisors warned them to not make this purchase at the time but AMD decided to do so anyway. I understand that AMD had approximately 5.5 Billion dollars and used over 4 Billion to make the ATI purchase. AMD is having to restructure to regain capital gains to get back on their feet financially. It is said that if things don't turn around for AMD they could be bankrupt by the end of the 3rd quarter this year.
Believe me guys you dont want this to happen. Unless some other company buys out AMD and maintains competition with Intel, you wont have the competitors edge to keep prices down and Intel will go soft trying to advance technology. Even if someone else buys out AMD to keep things going it wont be the same.
What I am trying to get at here is that if you plan to buy or build a new system be sure its AMD and it is socket AM2. AMD is coming out with the new Barcelona CPU the end of this year and its is "supposed to be competitive with Intel". We will see. All you will have to do to use the new processor is do a BIOS upgrade and change the CPU. This is more so true if you build than buy pre-manufactured since companies like Dell and HP are more interested in selling you a new system than helping you upgrade and delay spending your hard earned money every other year.
I had the decision to go Intel or AMD. I have been an avid Intel user for the past 4+ years and I made this decision not from what I am telling you now but from the fact that you can build such a powerful system at so much cheaper of a cost of a comparable Intel and you have so much room for upgrades to come.
Support AMD any way you can and get these guys back in the green zone with thier funds. You will enjoy the stability of an AMD, I promise. I am.
